Yashilkul and Bulunkul lakes
Yashilkul means ‘Green Lake’. This lake is situated 3,700 m above sea level at the Pamirs. The lake was formed as the result of a dam that blocked the Alichur River. The water flows over the dam and the Gunt River starts here.
There is legend relating to the lake about a giant animal named ‘Water Camel’, which lives in the lake.
Bulunkul Lake is much smaller than Yashilkul Lake and is connected to it by a narrow channel. It is interesting that the first fishing in the Pamirs was organized on this lake. Besides this region is also known as the republic lowest recorded temperature - minus 63 C.
