All baggage is subject to customs’ check at the point of entry. The following goods may be imported into Tajikistan by persons of 18 years of age or older without incurring customs duty: 200 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500 g of tobacco products; 2 liters of alcoholic beverage; a reasonable quantity of perfume for personal use; other goods for personal use only. Visitor’s may be allowed to import certain articles subject to be re-exported. Carrying narcotics, arms and ammunition, pornographic material are strictly prohibited.
Visitors can export souvenirs to their respective countries. You can take out souvenirs in reasonable amounts. The export of antique, paintings, old books etc belongings and cultural valuables requires special ‘expert report’ and permission from Ministry of Culture.
The import of local and foreign currency is unlimited, subject to declaration on arrival.
Export of foreign currency is limited to the amount declared on arrival, or maximum 3,000 USD cash per person without acknowledgement of the origin. Amount larger than this requires authorization from the documents.
A Custom Declaration form must be filled out on arrival which should be retained until departure from the country. If you are carrying valuables, or are the argumentative type, then it is wise to fill in the customs declaration and have it stamped. This allows you to import free of duty and without any special license all articles intended for personal use, clothing, tobacco and cigarettes, alcoholic drinks, perfume, sport equipment, video and photo cameras – all of this in reasonable quantities for personal consumption of use. It is better to keep entry custom declaration till the time you leave the country.
You may take out anything you legally imported into Tajikistan and anything you have purchase legally in the country. Try to get and always keep the sale receipts for everything you would like to export, along with your passport or the passport of the person who will take it out of the country.
